Have you been thinking of ditching cable? I did a few months ago and to be honest I am SO VERY happy that I did. How did I do that without making the entire family go into panic mode? Here’s how..
First you must have a Smart TV or you can use a Wii U, Xbox or Playstation to turn your tv basically into a Smart TV. I purchased mine during Cyber Week Deals and LOVE it. I literally paid for my NEW Smart TV buy getting rid of my cable bill for just 2 months.
Now lets take a look at the TV providers I use now:
Hulu – My favorite!
I watch so many more shows and movies now with Hulu. They have favorites like This is Us, Grey’s Anatomy, my new favorite because of Hulu The Good Doctor, WWE (that was a request from my son). There are so many shows to watch you’ll be amazed at what you will find. If you like watching LIVE tv you can also sign up for Hulu Live for sports, news and much more.
Right now they are offering a promotion where you can get a MONTH of Hulu FREE and then plans start as low as $7.99 a month. If you don’t like it you can cancel but I promise you will LOVE it!
Amazon Prime– I already had this but I wasn’t using it
Did you know that Prime Members get access to hundreds of FREE Movies and TV shows with their Prime Membership. Choose from movies like Wonder and shows like Homecoming with Julia Roberts!
Another way to get a TON of shows is with the NEW Fire TV Stick 4K with all-new Alexa Voice Remote, streaming media player. Just plug Fire TV Stick into your HDTV and start streaming in minutes. Use the included Alexa Voice Remote to find the best way to watch across more than 190 channels and apps with universal search. With the fastest Wi-Fi and most accurate voice search of any streaming media stick, shows and movies start faster and stream smoother than ever.
Netflix – My kids favorite!
Netflix also offers a FREE month then plans also start at $8.99 for the basic package. My daughter and I both love the show Free Rein and she’s currently watching Backstage. My son loves the movies that are offered.
With a Smart TV you can also use the ABC app which has shows such as The Good Doctor, Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19 and much more for FREE! If you have a Disney fan you can download the Disney Go app for shows like Andi Mack!
I purchase this 2019 Amplified HD Digital TV Antenna with 65-85 Miles Range, supporting 4K 1080p and All Older TV’s Indoor with Powerful HDTV Amplifier Signal Booster – 18ft Coax Cable/AC Adapter for $27.95 shipped. This is the best rated HD Digital Antenna product I could find on Amazon and it works GREAT! This is how we were able to watch the Super Bowl without any additional expenses since I currently do not purchase the Live versions of any of the apps above. *We could have however watched it on the CBS app during the free 7 day trial, but this was an easier option for me.
Additional Options:
You may also want to purchase a Roku Streaming Media Player. With Roku you get 500,000+ movies and TV episodes, with voice search across 1,000+ top channels. Plus, catch hit movies, popular shows and more with no subscription or fees on The Roku Channel. Tons of streaming services available. From movies and series on Netflix, Prime Video, HBO NOW and SHOWTIME to cable alternatives like Sling TV or YouTube TV to live sports and news on CBS News, ABC News and ESPN Free Roku mobile app for private listening, voice search and more
VUDU offers hundreds of Movies and TV show for FREE. If you’ve been waiting to see A Star Is Born it is currently available to rent on VUDU!
There are SO many options available now for anyone wanting to cut the cord. The list goes on and on, however these are a few of the options I’m using and that are working for me. Have you cut the cord? If you have additional recommendations please leave them in the comment section.
